A trip to lakeshore

Today the kids and I took a trip to Lakeshore Learning Store. I love this place. If you are a teacher or childcare provider then you might already know about this store. When I worked in social work we would get our art supplies for the group home here. We needed to get a birthday gift for my nephew Day and we also needed some art supplies.
As I opened the doors to the store Owen ran into the store and said " wow" as he ran in. Owen must of played with ever toy, music instruments, and any thing he found. Emily liked the music they had playing in the store. We found a get science kit for Day and I was able to get new paint brushes and mixing trays. Owen also found egg shakers, he picked one out for him and Emily. As we were leaving Owen found a little spy glass. It was way to cute how he kept looking at every thing throw it. He kept trying to give me one. Lol.
I could spend a lot of money in this store.
Do you know of a great store were you can find educational toys?

Just as I was about to post this Owen came in the room holding that package of new paint brushes saying "colors" we are off to paint!

The Buck Speedway, the party

The party was a hit!!! Owen did great! No melt downs!!!! ( and no nap) I am so happy with the way the party turned out. A big thank you goes to my Mom, Dad, Sister and Brother in-law, and of course Dave. Thank you so much for all the help. Love you all. Now let me tell you about the party.

Owen loves cars and dirt bikes, just like his Dad. I thought it would only be fitting to turn our house into the Buck Speedway. My mom found a great website that had anything you could think of for a racing theme party. Next was that cake. Wilton has a cake pan that after the cake is baked there is a checkerboard pattern with in every slice. Perfect!!!! I made the cake to look like a tire. It took a lot of black food coloring for the icing. My Mom made letters for the cake out of chocolate, they turned out perfect. For an added effect I added brown sugar around the edge of the plate, to look like dirt.

Another goodie, I made chocolate spark plugs. That is right spark plugs. The second I saw the mold on Amazon I knew that I had to make them. I wish there was a better picture. I know that I will be making them again soon.

Owen received great gifts from our friends and family. He made sound effects with every car that he opened. He even tested tiny baseball bat that he got by hitting me in the arm. The joys of a 2 year old.

I have to confess to something…. A couple of weeks before the party there was a couple of thing that I worked with Owen on. The first was the question “ How old are you?” let’s just say we are still working on that one. He will answer me 50% of the time. The other 50% I get a smile. The second was blowing out the candle. If I had a candle burning in the house we would sing Happy Birthday and he would blow out the candle. Let’s just say he was a rock star when it came to cake time.

I can’t believe that my little guy is 2. It really does seem like just yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital. Let’s just hope that the terrible 2’s stay away from the buck house.

Toy bath!!

To help fight the running nose germs. I try to clean the toys that Owen and his friends play with. With his birthday party coming up I thought today was a perfect day to give his toys a bath. To get ready I explain to Owen that we are giving his toys a bath to get them clean just like when we give him a bath. First up are his building blocks. I fill the sink with hot water and add bleach. I want Owen to think he is helping me out. So I grab a large plastic blow and add some water and dish soap, I also give him a wooden spoon. We count together 3 blocks and put them in his bowl. I dump the rest in the sink. We both stir the blocks in the water to make sure the get clean. And of course making sound effects. Singing and sound effects always make cleaning fun to a 2 year old. I let the blocks in the sink soak to make sure all the little germs are killed.
Toy cars are next. We are off to find them .

A Heathy frozen treat

Like many people I know I am totally addicted to pinterst!! I found a pin for frozen yogurt dots. Oh man are they good. They are so easy to make. All you need is yogurt, plastic sandwich bag, cookie sheet, and a freezer. Fill a sandwich Baggie with your choice of yogurt. Cut the corner off. The amount of the corner you cut off will determine the size of the dot. Then fill the cookie sheet with dots. Pop it in the freezer and in about a hour you are done! Owen loved them, he ate his so fast by the time I was able to take a picture there was only one left in his bowl.
Do you have a heathy snack?

My little helper

Hello everyone! Sorry it has been so long. I hope you had a great week. One of many things we did this week was some house cleaning. Fun right? Well I decided that this would be the perfect time to teach Owen about helping out. I filled a spray bottle with a little bit of water and gave it to Owen. I also gave him a wash cloth. I showed him how to spray with water and wipe the widow with the wash cloth. He gave me a big smile and went to work. He loved it! I was able to clean the kitchen! My little boy is getting to be so big! Hopefully he will keep thinking house work is fun and always want to be mommy's little helper.
Do your kids like to help with cleaning? What do they like to do?

Congratulation Gold family

I wanted to say congratulations to one of my readers , a fellow alumni from SFSU, team mate, and a good friend, Roger Gold. His wonderful wife Amy just have birth to their second child. A beautiful baby girl, Cameron. Jordan is going to be a great big sister. We are very happy for you guys. Owen wanted me to tell Jordan if she needs any tips on how to handle a baby sister just let him know. :-)
Can't wait to see pictures.
Please join me on saying congratulation to the Gold family.

Home Again

We made it back home! What a great trip. Everyone had a great time.
Owen loved the desert, riding his bike, playing in the dirt, and playing
with his new friends. Dave was able to get a couple of good rides in. I
was even able to ride my bike. It's has been over 2 years since I have
been on the bike, before kids lol. Emily did great, the sounds of the
bikes did not scare her at all. And she was able to take naps in her
favorite place in someone's arms.
Now I have a lot to clean up. The rain has stopped here, so we were able
to unpack the trailer and now it is time to clean. I also need to look at all
the pictures I took, 148. I will post some hopefully later today. I need
to wait for their nap time.

I hope every one had a great weekend.
